New DeeJayOne.co.uk splash page

I have neglected this site for a very, very long time in favour of lots of other projects. So much so that these pages became a bit of a dusty and unused embarrassment.

In fact, there's not much chance of that changing soon as I am busy working on a brand new look (and much more functional) Wednesdayite.com website (coming soon) and then I have another project lined up straight after that which will take a few months.

So, with that in mind, I have done a quick new splash page for DeeJayOne.co.uk, which came from a couple of ideas I saw a while back. The first one was someone taking pictures of his CD shelves and linking each of the pictured cases to the relevant album on Spotify (superb idea, although I haven't gone that far!). The second was some amazing art I saw that had images overlayed onto a stripy pattern - which looked... just... awesome.

So, with those in mind - and a couple of rubbish drafts along the way - I settled on the splash page now seen on DeeJayOne.co.uk, which mouseover's and links to various websites/profiles where you might find me a little more active.

...Just don't take the piss out of the [small!] snapshot of my CD collection...

DeeJayOne Film Review

I've been a Batman fan since I was little
. As a kid I watched the ridiculously camp 60's TV version almost religiously, adored Burton's 1989 Batman and flirted for some time with the comic books and graphic novels.

Since the 1989 Batman the only movie I properly got into was Batman Forever, which - whilst not being great - I think was the best of that whole franchise. Batman was good, Batman Returns was substandard at best, Forever was fun and comic-book like with some good performances (Kilmer beats Keaton hands down for the best Batman on that score whilst we'll not even mention the abomination that was Clooney) and Batman and Robin should never have made it off the starting line *must wipe from memory*.

Then Batman Begins came along. and THAT was my Batman. It was almost perfect. Origins stories can be, dare I say, 'boring' - you know what's coming all the way through and want to get to the point and to the action. THIS origins story though was a burst of fresh air and just what the doctor ordered. Well paced, beautifully executed, action packed and all along you became at one with the character of Wayne - feeling his anger, resentment, annoyance and his will for retribution and vengeance on the people that hurt his city. Performances in this Batman were stellar and it could hardly be beaten.

So I looked forward to The Dark Knight - I got built up in the hype even before it was shot. I enjoyed the ridiculously good viral campaign and nearly died when I saw the first pictures of Ledger's Joker appear. I believed in Harvey Dent and I couldn't wait for this release. I read a review that said "This Batman is not just the best superhero movie ever made, but possibly the best crime movie ever made" -I saw someone say it was "almost as good as The Godfather: Part 2" - I never saw ONE bad word about this movie. Anywhere.

So, now the scene has been set, what did I think of my second Batman film?

THE FAN HIS FOOTBALL CLUB TRIED TO KILL

deejayone.co.uk

It's been a long time since an update on this site.
Simply because of how busy I have been, the fact the last parody film fell through on the day of the shoot and no time to get other things off the ground. It's been a busy time with Wednesdayite (as Sheffield Wednesday fans will no doubt know and have an opinion on, either way) and things appear to go from ridiculous to sublime daily in all things SWFC related. However, I felt compelled to write something, anything, on the whole SWFC Ltd/Kaven Walker Vs. Nigel Short debacle. I will warn straight away about a long story here - however, this is a ridiculous situation that has been going on for near two years and needs explaining in full.

For those who do not know Nigel Short, he is our very own Gary Barlow in the spoof Take That video made last year. However, Sheffield Wednesday fans will know him as the man who got us a giant flag a few years ago to pass over our heads on the Kop. He was also the man who came up with the 'Shareholders Association Initiative', which compiled a register of shareholders willing to sell for the right offer when the club stated that investors were being put off by not being able to get to a majority 51% shareholding. Nigel is a lifelong fan of Sheffield Wednesday, following in the footsteps of his father before him, who has dedicated a huge amount of his spare time to helping the club and it's community via various means.

In the very same press conference where the clubs' then chairman Dave Allen, with Chief Executive Kaven Walker sat by his side, made the claim about not reaching 51% of shares being a problem for investors, Mr. Allen infamously went on to label a section of the clubs own fans (customers) 'Scum' and 'Cretins' with one unfortunate lady publicly called a 'venomous bitch'. Ironic then that this same club - and Kaven Walker - were at the same time dragging lifelong fan Nigel Short through a legal battle for something he wrote about them on an internet messageboard around two years ago.

And what was the comment that Nigel Short made that offended the club and it's CEO so much? Nobody can remember. Was it any worse than what Mr. Allen said at his press conference about his own customers? Probably not.
